'happy rags'
rag cushions + objects 2015-16
I have always felt a deep-rooted love for wool, fibre and textiles of all sorts. In 2014, deeply disturbed by our culture's growing addiction to short lived consumption of fashionable 'pretty things', I rekindled my skills and started cutting up colourful discarded clothing, weaving it into rugs, cushions and then around recycled furniture and other objects. It was like a child’s marvel at endless possibilities, a joyful play with colour and texture bringing out the beauty of throw away items, letting them shine with new meaning and appeal: “wow, look I can be so much more!”
