'woven country'

rag weavings on recycled canvasses 2016-17

Developing new weaving techniques and playing with them, I produced some finer works abstracting Australian landscapes.

Unusual is that the warp is stitched onto a stretcher frame and around three dimensional profiles of recycled felt. The weft is then finger woven and tufted directly onto it, letting the landscapes grow and evolve during the process. This results in organic flows of shape and subtle colour effects that are intricate when viewed close up and graphically striking when seen from some distance.
